THE LIPID PEROXIDATION SYSTEM AFTER ESOPHAGEAL CHEMICAL BURN IN THE EXPERIMENT
WITH ANTIOXIDANTS THERAPY

Abstract

Background. The imbalance in the lipid peroxidation system is a nonspecific response to a chemical burn of the esophagus. This study was conducted to study the state of lipid peroxidation and to determine the effect of the antioxidant drug on the dynamics of oxidase stress.
Materials and methods. 30 rabbits were subject to modeling of a chemical burn of the esophagus with 46 % acetic acid. Rabbits were divided in two groups with 15 animals in each group: the main one - with the introduction of mexidol (ethyl methyl mercaptopyridine succinate), and the control one - with the introduction of saline. The state of the lipid peroxidation system was assessed on the 5th, 14th, 21st, 30th, and 45th day after the chemical injury.
Results. It was found, that the level of lipid peroxidation was increasing and the activity of antioxidants was decreasing from 2 days after the esophagus burn to 5 days of the experiment. The restoration of the prooxidant-antioxidant system’s balance was verified on the 21st day of the experiment in the first group. In the second group it was recorded on the 30th day of the experiment. By the 45th day, the values of the parameters under study reached "pre-burn" values.
Conclusions. The results indicate a pronounced imbalance in the system of lipid peroxidation after chemical burn of the esophagus with acetic acid. It has been proved that antioxidant preparations are effective against chemical burns of the esophagus with acetic acid solution.
